Did ye ever think that you would be choosing Monaghan as your destination of choice this summer (or any summer?) I say this with the height of respect for our wee county and your discerning nature!
For the first time ever, we are aiming to SHOWCASE County Monaghan in the round… “joining the dots” so to speak, to tell our story, create the vision and share it with you.
Why Monaghan? Centrally located for much of Ireland, 75 mins from Dublin airport, 65 mins from Belfast. With such a great national road network, nowhere is too far away. When I was a kid, getting to Fleadh Cheoil na h-Eireann in Listowel took an entire day…NINE hours! Now you can get from Cork to Monaghan in 4 hours (within all speed limits).
Monaghan with its rolling drumlin hills, great farmland, fantastic locally produced food, great homegrown music, mad craic, stylish accommodation .. And all at a FRACTION of the price you are paying in the more traditional tourist parts of Ireland.
There is no RIP-OFF culture here in Monaghan … as I like to say… we are not the BBC… but more like the BBBC… Better Bang for Buck County! We give value. We add craic. WE do it a bit differently here. There is so much unique activity here, with natural amenities, stunning parklands and small mountain ranges. Idyllic lake shores, golf courses and a craft industry of such diversity and calibre, that it would “bate Banagher” as local saying. (not the Offaly Banagher!) We are a funny, witty and sometimes slightly acerbic county! Can match the quick wittedness of ye down in Cork and Kerry no bother at all! Teach you a few things about the “S” word!! But not on this platform.. you have to be here to find out!
