Monaghan as a tourist hub.

Here at Mad About Monaghan, it was a singular goal of the MAM project to grow Monaghan as an ideal location hub for tourists both national and international visiting the North East region of Ireland, and also including Belfast, Dublin and the coastal region in-between both cities.

We can now confirm in 2022 and 2023 we have seen phenomenal growth especially in the international visitor sector, were by tourists have chosen to use Monaghan town and county as a central location for their vacation.

Newgrange, Belfast/ Titanic quarter, Giants Causeway- Game of Thrones, Co.Down, Carlingford Co.Louth, Loch Erne waterway and the Stairway to Heaven in Fermanagh have all been destination locations where visitors have chosen daytrips from Monaghan with ease of access and not long journey times.

Here at Mad About Monaghan we have been able to track increasingly visitor numbers, length of average stay and where people have travelled from. France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Germany, USA, Canada and many more countries besides. Families on holidays, people tracing their Irish ancestry and those who just wish to explore some of the highlights of Ireland natural amunities aswel as some of the hidden gems. Monaghan has proven to be cost effective, easy access from 3 international airports and very hospitable. Monaghan is very well known as being a county which offers a wide an varied range of outdoor amenities, holidays for children with additional needs, great wining and dining options and very friendly locals to engage with. “Half the price and twice the bang for buck” has always been a catchphrase attributed for Monaghan. Going forward in 2024 we have plans to further develop tourism growth targeting parts of the USA and Canada. More about that anon.
