Lough Muckno

Enjoy various forest trails on the Black and or White Islands, and water activities on the lake of this 900-acre wood. Lough Muckno and its surrounds were once part of the Blayney Estate which the town Castleblayney takes its name from. Admire the main entrance and gate, flanked by two lodges on either side. Hope Castle stands, in poor condition, overlooking the lake from a height, and you can view the old walled garden and annexe buildings behind the castle. You can also walk along the old golf course, away from the direction of the main gate, which will bring you out on the N53 Dundalk road where you can continue around into the town and or back into the park through the main gate.
