To step into Rory’s world is like stepping back in time. One filled with the knowledge and skills of his forefathers of bespoke tailoring; the preservation of an art that without Rory’s ambition would surely be lost to the pages of history. His family has serviced local communities for over five generations dating back to the 1800s from Ireland to Australia, from London to New York. Most notably would be his grandfather, Patrick McCabe (1896 – 1989) who served as the postmaster and master tailor for the small village of New Bliss, Country Monaghan.
The success of this series raised the attention of former First Lady, Michelle Obama who hosted an annual fashion luncheon at the White House. In 2014, Rory received an invite to this specific luncheon and was personally thanked for his contribution to education in America. This event would spark the inspiration for Rory to return to Ireland and fulfil his lifelong dream of opening his own school of tailoring, now established as The Handcraft Tailor Academy.

In 2010, he had completed his apprenticeship and emigrated from Savile Row’s founding company, Henry Poole & Co., to New York City to set up his own company, Rory Duffy Handcraft Tailor, based out of the Lower East Side. For nearly six years, Rory serviced the elite with his finely tailored suits in the city that never sleeps.
Simultaneously, Rory became a lecturer with Parsons the New School – a world-renowned fashion school. Discovering a passion for teaching, he sought out to create a free video series on YouTube, ‘The Making of a Coat’, which brought both national and international recognition as a leader in his industry. With over two million views and more than sixteen thousand subscribers to his channel, his series was an instant success and took him from servicing the top 1% of New York City to servicing the elite from coast to coast across the United States.
