Sliabh Beagh Adventures

Outdoor Activities
Sliabh Beagh Adventures is a new activity-based business, which is ideally located in the heart of Knockatallon village in north Co. Monaghan at the foot of the Sliabh Beagh mountains. We aim to help you destress and unwind through offering a range of outdoor activities and adventure on Sliabh Beagh that include bicycle hire, guided walking/cycling tours and nature trails, orienteering, battle and target archery.
Sliabh Beagh is an area of upland heath and blanket bog that straddles the border between counties Monaghan, Fermanagh and Tyrone. It is home to some very important natural habitats, supporting protected and endangered species of flora and fauna native to the area and rarely found in the rest of Ireland.
Special Protected Area
Sliabh Beagh is also a breeding ground for endangered birds such as the Hen Harrier and the Curlew, one of the few breeding grounds left in Ireland. As a result, Sliabh Beagh has been designated with special protection status both in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland. It is a landscape that is rugged and varied and offers breath-taking views of surrounding counties. We have something here in Monaghan that no other part of the country has. We have a unique high-quality natural environment the provides a haven for wildlife and an opportunity for tourists to connect with and explore the natural world.
Popular Walking Destination
Sliabh Beagh is already known as a popular walking destination and there are 36 looped walks throughout the region – all of which are way marked and vary in lengths and which guide walkers through a variety of landscapes and travel across counties Monaghan, Fermanagh and Tyrone. Here in Knockatallon, we have four way marked walks in length from 4km – 10km, two of which are on quite country roads and that are suitable for all abilities and two of which are over more challenging terrain such as forest tracks and open moorland. For more experienced hikers, there is the Sliabh Beagh way – an established 64K way marked route – offers a two-day walking route exploring the varied countryside though lanes, forest tracks and moorland paths.
What’s On Offer
We offer guided walking and cycling tours to both individuals and groups, which can incorporate the attractions and sites of interests on the Sliabh Beagh or take you off the beaten path and explore areas less travelled. Sliabh Beagh is home to the highest point in Co. Monaghan and there are parts on the Sliabh Beagh that on a clear day you can see Benbulben (Sligo), Cuilcagh (Fermanagh), Blue Stack Mountains (Donegal), Sperrin Mountains (Down/Derry). We have a range of adult and child bicycles available for hire, offering a fun and accessible means of exploring the region's hidden pathways. Both adults and children can also try their hand at target archery and battle archery or embark on an orienteering adventure for an afternoon across open moorland and forestry trails.
Catering for couple weekend getaways, family breaks, active or wellness breaks, we have something for everyone. We work closely with the Sliabh Beagh Hotel & Tourism Centre in Knockatallon and can offer accommodation packages along with our activities. If you come to stay in Knockatallon, we have food, accommodation, lots of activities and amenities, you won’t be stuck for things to do.
